Located roughly midway between Baltimore and Philadelphia, the city of Aberdeen, MD is a quiet location with around 16,000 inhabitants, most of whom live here and work in the bigger metropolitan areas of the region. 1. Flying Point Park
On the shores of the Bush River, the Flying Point Park is a popular location among inhabitants of the nearby town of Edgewood, as well as people coming from Baltimore and other larger cities in the area. The park has several picnic tables, shaded areas, public grills, and indoor venues that can be rented for private events. For anglers, the place has a designated fishing pier that can be used without any previous reservation.
If you are lucky while fishing at the Flying Point Park, you can catch some nicely sized catfish and other less common species. To get here from downtown Aberdeen, the easiest way is to take US-40 E and driving west for about 25 minutes. The entrance to the park is located just 14 miles away from Aberdeen’s central trail station.
2. Loch Raven Fishing Center
Located less than an hour’s drive away from downtown Aberdeen, the Loch Raven Fishing Center is a popular location for anglers, canoeists, and water sports enthusiasts coming from all over the northeast. If you are looking for a well-maintained and affordable place to spend a day trying your luck with fishing, this is a great choice. Some of the most common species of fish you can find here include Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and Northern Pike.
At the entrance of the Loch Raven Fishing Center, there is a visitor area where you can buy bait and even rent a small rowboat to head to the lake and try your luck with the fish. Visitors often praise the friendly staff of the area, as well as the affordable prices of the rental boats and the fishing supplies. 3. Gunpowder Falls State Park
The Gunpowder Falls State Park is located a little over 20 miles west of downtown Aberdeen, right on the shores of the Gunpowder River. The park features not only designated fishing areas but also a large beach and swimming area that is popular during the weekend among visitors from Baltimore and other nearby cities. For anglers, some of the most common species of fish include Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, and Blue Catfish.
