If you’re not an fan of beer, you might not understand the difference between craft beer and regular beer. Beer connoisseurs will always emphasize the importance of drinking a craft brew because they produce it in much smaller quantities and are served at a lower temperature. This makes it easier to savor the different flavors. You’ll find many breweries and pubs near Aberdeen, MD. When trying out the different breweries, remember to drink responsibly and with moderation.

1. Hopkins Farm Brewery

The Hopkins Farm has been in operation for four generations of Hopkins. In the past 100 years, the Hopkins family have been dairy farmers, growing tomatoes and soybeans. They’ve also been commercial corn and tomato growers. Born out of their love for beer and relaxing with friends and family after a long day at the farm, the family built the brewery on their farm and set it up so that they could watch the sunset each evening.

Hopkins Farm has a wide variety of beers, all made in-house at their brewery. You’ll find a stout beer brewed with oats, raisins, and lactose. Then their very first beer, a blond ale that’s light with a full-bodied flavor. There’s also a sour-fruited brew with cranberries and oranges. You’ll find a white IPA, aptly named Snowy Owl, a wheat beer, an American IPA called Susquehanna Flats, a porter, bock, pilsner, other varieties of IPA beer, and ales.

2. Double Groove Brewing Company

Giving up their successful careers at a Maryland healthcare system for the love of beer, these good friends decide to put to good use everything they had learned through the years from visiting breweries locally and while on vacation elsewhere. Their company’s name, Double Groove, was born from a love of classic rock and the collection of over 3,000 classic rock albums on vinyl.

It’s not surprising that some customers might drop by on any day to find a different selection of beers. You’ll find a selection of IPA beer, including their award-winning Gimme 3 Hops, a double IPA with floral and citrus notes. You’ll also find several kinds of ale, stout, pilsner, and bock.

3. Battery Island Brewing Company

This veteran-owned brewery is passionate about its beer, supporting local events and businesses in its community. Their selection of beer will keep you wanting to come back to try them all. Start with the Rusalka, which came first in the 2020 Malt Madness Brew Competition Gold Medal in the Strong Ale category. This dark, full-bodied coffee stout has notes of freshly roasted coffee and vanilla.

Another notable beer you’ll find there is called the Vermonter and they say “it’s not for the faint of heart”. With 8.6% alcohol by volume, you’d better not be driving home. If you like sweet beer, try O’Dark 30 with notes of molasses and chocolate. You’ll never go wrong with all the other selections you’ll find at Battery Island.

Depending on your mood, try all three drinking spots. When you want to relax and watch the sunset, Hopkins is the place to go. Drive out about 13 miles to listen to classic rock music while savoring a beer. Support a nearby veteran-owned brewery and try out Battery Island’s winning brew.
