The Jeep Wrangler is an iconic off-roader with capabilities far exceeding other vehicles that try to keep up with it. Its retro design still looks similar to the original Jeeps from World War II, but last year’s Wrangler comes with features and equipment to make it more comfortable and provide passengers with both connectivity and technology. If you’re ready to tackle any terrain, take a look at what a used 2021 Jeep Wrangler can offer you.

The Models

Any of the Wrangler models released over Jeep’s lengthy history have the ability to drive over rough terrain. The entry-level Sport from 2021, for example, has 17-inch wheels, skid plates, all-season tires, and fog lights. The Sport S from that year also adds power-adjustable mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, and offers the option for a limited-slip rear differential. The 2021 Sahara is a four-door Wrangler. It has 18-inch alloy wheels, side steps, and body-colored fenders.

The Rubicon is largely known as the most off-road-worthy Wrangler. The 2021 model has an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, Dana 44 axles, all-terrain tires, rock rails, and taller fender flares to make room for the large tires.

The Power

The standard engine for the Wrangler is a 3.6-liter V-6. It generates 285 horsepower and gets 260 pound-feet of torque. It uses Jeep’s six-speed manual transmission. For the 2021 model year, Wranglers equipped with the available eight-speed automatic transmission have a version of the V-6 that uses a mild-hybrid eTorque system. It helps increase fuel economy, making the Wrangler more efficient.

A 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is also available. It puts out 270 horsepower, gets 295 pound-feet of torque, and comes with an automatic transmission. This engine also comes with the heavy-duty Dana 44 axles to help the Wrangler handle the extra power.

The Four-Wheel Drive Systems

Used Jeep Wranglers often come in different trim levels, with the trims from last year also determining which of the three different four-wheel-drive systems was included. The Command-Trac 4×4 is a part-time system that sends torque to all four wheels when needed for extra traction. The Selec-Trac 4×4 system uses four-wheel drive full time but switches to two-wheel drive when you hit clear roads to maximize fuel economy. The Rock-Trac system that comes with the Rubicon is a part-time system, or you can choose the new full-time Rock-Trac 4×4 system that will automatically switch to four-wheel drive when it senses slipping.

Trail Rated Badge

The 2021 Wrangler received Jeep’s Trail Rated Badge. A Wrangler earns this by passing several tests that prove it is capable of tackling any type of off-road conditions and inclement weather. Its high air intake and sealed electrical connections make it capable of crossing streams and creeks. The precision steering system and high-performance wheelbase give the 2021 Wrangler the ability to navigate large rocks and steep trails. It also has excellent articulation that helps keep the wheels on the ground when driving over obstacles, either 9.7 inches of ground clearance with most models and 10.8 inches of ground clearance with the Rubicon. This allows the Wrangler to drive over rock, logs, and other obstacles in its path.

Jeep designs every Wrangler with equipment that makes it capable of handling any type of terrain. Every year, Jeep finds new ways to innovate off-roading through the technology and capabilities they include in their Wranglers. From rock-covered trails to snowy mountain roads and more, the Wrangler will take it all on. If any of this sounds like something you’d be interested in, then stop by Adams Jeep of Maryland to browse our selection of used Jeep Wranglers from as recently as 2022.
