There’s nothing worse than going out on a hot summer day, getting into your car, turning the key, and finding your car AC not working. You expect to feel a cool blast of fresh air that gives you relief from the heat, but instead, you’re in for a hot, muggy drive. If this happens to you, not to worry! Your local Jeep dealer can help you to get it fixed and running once more.

Leaking Refrigerant

In order to understand why your air conditioning might not be functioning correctly, it helps to know the basics of how it works. Your AC unit contains a refrigerating fluid, such as freon, that is used to reduce the temperature of the air that runs through it. This fluid is the key to getting cold air to you fast, so something involving the fluid is often one of the first things you should check.

One common reason car AC units fail is that there is a crack or a weak point in the tubing or in the connections where the refrigerant leaks through. When enough fluid escapes, you no longer have cool air. So, if you feel hot air coming through your unit, take it in and a Jeep technician can take a look at it.

Malfunctioning Fans

Of course, escaping liquid is not the only reason your AC unit might not work correctly. If you turn on your air conditioning and don’t feel anything at all blowing through the vents, you might have a problem with your fans. The fans, which transport the cold air from the AC unit to the car’s cabin, run on electricity. As such, any frayed wires or broken connections can cause them to stop working.

Additionally, the AC unit’s motors can short-circuit or fail for a variety of other reasons. It can be difficult to discover exactly where the failure is taking place, so it’s best to bring it in and have talented Jeep technicians diagnose the problem.

Blocked Condenser

To keep you from having to refill your AC unit with refrigerant every time you drive, the AC unit recycles hot refrigerant. This is done by compressing it and cooling it with the condenser, which utilizes fresh air coming in from the front of the vehicle. This is actually what the grille is for, along with cooling your engine! But if the grille is blocked with debris, it could inhibit cool air from getting to the condenser.

Additionally, the condenser can get blocked with leftover particles in the refrigerant fluid. Luckily, a Jeep mechanic can fix this for you!
