It’s all in the name. Maryland boasts an impressive number of landmarks that wow visitors and locals alike. Be sure to check out these top destinations near and dear to Aberdeen, MD.

1. Ripken Stadium

Named after the Baltimore Orioles great Cal Ripken, this baseball stadium is home base to the minor league sensation Aberdeen IronBirds. The mighty stadium’s presence towers, as it’s one of the most visible sites from super-busy I-95. Once you visit, you’ll be greeted by beautiful, vibrant Leidos Field and devoted, faithful fans ready to cheer the IronBirds’ exploits on the diamond.

If the aroma of those seasoned crab items wafting from the concessions doesn’t entice you, nothing will. Get on down to Ripken Stadium today and root, root, root for the IronBirds!

2. Chesapeake Bay

Aberdeen hugs one of the biggest and most eco-diverse waterways in America: Chesapeake Bay. This 200-mile-long estuary makes its presence felt in six states and is fed by 150-plus rivers and streams. Although enclosed on many sides by land (including Aberdeen in the north), the bay empties into the Atlantic Ocean.

Nature lovers may be able to spot a host of wildlife, including stingrays, sharks, bottle-nose dolphins, ospreys, bald eagles, and nearly 350 fish species. And, of course, crabs have become a culinary favorite in bay towns like Aberdeen for a reason.

3. Stoney Demonstration Forest

Over 1,200 acres of hardwood forest comprise this natural haven. As a demonstration forest, it’s often used for educational purposes such as teaching forest and wildlife habitat management. Visitors can hike through the area, though, and spot mammals, birds, and reptiles in abundance. Some of the species are a rare sight to see indeed, as they are currently on the endangered list.

4. Concord Point Lighthouse

Located in historic Havre de Grace, this early 19th-century structure is Maryland’s second oldest lighthouse. Its significance has earned it a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Once a beacon of light for sailors, Concord Point Lighthouse now hosts festive gatherings such as weddings because of its scenic viewpoints overlooking the conjunction of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay.

Visitors can tour the landmark on weekends from April until October annually. For the sweeping and picturesque image of a lifetime, take a trip to the tower’s top. If you want to let in that cool bay breeze and enjoy a full panoramic view of the lighthouse and other local sites, the Jeep Wrangler has you covered with options like the Sunrider retractable hardtop and half-door or even doors-off features. Soak in fresh air, sunshine, and fully accessible views like never before.

5. West Bel Air Road

The centerpiece of the Aberdeen Heritage Walking Tour, this stretch of the neighborhood is home to a number of historic sites. Areas of interest you can appreciate along the way include the 1880s B&O Railroad Station, an old canning factory, and a collection of stunning residences dating back to the Victorian era that are sculpted in majestic architecture popular at the time.
