Aberdeen, MD is a beautiful place, packed with pleasant scenery and delightful views. And what better way of exploring all this beautiful nature could there be than by walking through it? Thankfully, there are a variety of hiking trails close to town.

1. Forest Greens Lake Preserve

This gorgeous slice of preserved Maryland beauty is centered around a wonderfully preserved lake. Visitors can wander around the water, enjoying views of the luscious woodland and tidal inlet, while listening to the birdcalls that echo around the preserve.

The perfect place to spot wildlife, Forest Greens Lake Preserve is home to a wide range of different species, including beavers, deer, as well as reptiles. If you’re lucky, you may even spot an oriole or indigo bunting! Forest Greens Lake Preserve is located just a short drive south of downtown Aberdeen.

2. Old Quarry Trail

A pleasantly varied trail, Old Quarry runs by craggy rock faces, peaceful woodlands, and a fast-flowing creek. As the name suggests, this trail was built in the remains of a local quarry and provides an interesting look at the industrial history of the area, as well as a soothing natural environment.

3. Havre de Grace Boardwalk

If you’re looking to enjoy views of Chesapeake Bay, there are few better places to visit than Havre de Grace. This pleasant city sits right on the water and features a pleasant boardwalk, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to enjoy unspoiled views over the water. Binoculars and viewing points are available and if you keep your eyes peeled, you could spot osprey, bald eagles, and geese.

The pleasant boardwalk runs for several miles across the water, with lots to do along the way. As well as various cafes and stores, there are no fewer than 5 museums on the boardwalk, including the famed Concord Point Lighthouse, Decoy Museum, and Lockhouse Museum. As it’s a smooth, wide trail, this is the perfect place for the whole family to take a stroll.

4. Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail

One of the area’s best-kept secrets is the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway Trail. This heavily wooded path runs for several miles along the side of the river, offering the perfect escape from the pressures of daily life. A haven for wildlife, hikers often spot bald eagles soaring overhead, or blue herons stopping to fish in the river.

Plenty of parking is available in the lot at Conowingo Fisherman’s Park, near the hydro station. If you’re looking to enjoy more outdoor activities after your hike, there are lots of things to do at this park. You can enjoy fishing, boating, or just looking out over the water. The path can be a little busy at times, especially with dog walkers. After heavy rains, it can get quite muddy, so may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

To make the most of all these paths and discover more fantastic places to take a stroll, you’ll need a robust and reliable way to get around. Come on down to Adams Jeep of Maryland today for a great deal on a quality new or pre-owned vehicle!
